Get Ready for Brookwood’s Holiday Lights Contest

Once again, the Brookwood HOA is sponsoring a contest to award a creative family for their holiday lights display. The winner will receive a gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Make sure your display is finished and turned on early for the night of Tuesday, December 19th. That’s when our property manager, Anna Hornstein will be out to judge the contest. Displays will be judged on originality, number of lights and variety.

Joneses Win Holiday Lights Display

Congratulations to Terry and Kevin Jones who won Brookwood’s holiday lighting contest. The winners live at 417 Wayfare Lane and received a $50 gift certificate to the Valley Smoke Restaurant.

Kevin used a combination of net and string lights to accompany a lighted tree and pink flamingo. “The effort included adding more lights than last year and quite a few trips up and down the ladder,” he said.

The judges included our property manager and HOA board members as the association sponsored the event. Thanks also to Yianni Demopoulos and his team for decorating the entrances to the community.

Lewis family wins lights contest

Congratulations to Don and Melissa Lewis who won Brookwood’s holiday lighting contest. The winners live at 299 Wayfare Lane and will receive a $50 gift certificate to the Valley Smoke Restaurant.

Don and Melissa Lewis’ home at 299 Wayfare Lane

Our judge, property manager Anna Hornstein, admitted that she had a hard time picking a winner. There were “lots of homes to choose from,” she said. Anna got some help from our HOA board members after giving them four nominees to choose from.

This was the first year that a home on Wayfare Lane won the prize. Previous awards were given to homes on Wayside and Willow Cove.

Thanks also to Megan Wildenstein for decorating the entrances to the subdivision. Take some time during one of our nice evenings to walk or drive around the neighborhood to see what a fantastic job was done this year.

Holiday decorating to be judged tomorrow

Now is the time to add any last minute enhancements to your outdoor displays because Brookwood’s holiday decorating contest will be judged at 7:30pm tomorrow evening (Monday, December 13). Sponsored by the Brookwood HOA, the contest gives homeowners a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Our judge, First Coast property manager Anna Hornstein, will be looking for creativity, color schemes, amount of lights, coordination of displays, overall appearance, animation and originality.

The winning homeowner will be announced by a news post on the HOA website during the week. Let’s make this a competition where we all have fun and make our neighborhood shine in the process!

Proposed paint colors debut during tomorrow’s Halloween party

Tiny princesses and masked adventure figures are the highlights of tomorrow’s Halloween party, but a display with color swatches on it is also bound to draw some attention.

Homeowners soon will be voting on whether new exterior paint color options should be added to the HOA’s approved list of colors. And, the proposed colors for front doors and shutters will be available for viewing at Sunday’s (Oct. 20) Halloween party at 4pm at the playground.

More background on the proposed colors is available on the homepage of the Brookwood HOA website. Additional information about the Halloween party is available by following this link.

Mark Oct. 20th for a ghoulishly good time!

What’s better than a Halloween gathering? A Halloween gathering with pizza! Join your neighbors at the HOA-sponsored fall social at 4pm on Sunday, October 20th near the Brookwood playground.

There will be Halloween decorations, and games for the kids, says Natalie Rooke, HOA Social Committee Lead. If you can lend Natalie a hand with the arrangements, please contact us at [email protected] and we will let her know.

Residents and children are encouraged to dress up and decorate their golf carts for the occasion. The golf carts will line up so that candy can be given out in a Trunk or Treat fashion. Those without carts are welcome to bring candy and set up a table.
