Along with replacing most of the original plantings in the front yard, he has added four large Sylvestris palms to the front and rear of the home, all of which are surrounded by beautiful paver borders.

A paver walkway along the left side of the home leads to a large relaxing covered patio and open pergola area filled with potted plants. Smaller palms and colorful tropical plants can be found on both sides of the walkway.

Stevens Win August Yard of the Month

Congratulations to Liliana and Bruce Stevens who received this month’s pick for the Brookwood HOA’s Yard of the Month.

The Stevens moved to 408 Wayfare Lane just over a year ago from Colorado and say that they are still learning about gardening in Florida. “When we moved in,” Liliana says, “there were some bushes and other plants and not much color. We wanted to create not only an attractive garden but also to incorporate some Florida native plants which can help provide natural habitats (many of which have been disappearing due to land developments) for birds and other pollinators.”

The Stevens say that they also want to have a diversity of plants which hopefully will make their garden more naturally resistant to pests. In their garden you can find Florida natives such as Black eyed Susan, Lanceleaf Coreopsis, Blue eyed Grass, Coontie palms and Firebush in between Pentas and Bulbine.

July “Yard” winner is Sandy Steiner

July’s Yard of the Month winner is Sandy Steiner of 218 Wayfare Lane. Sandy is an avid gardener and works most early mornings in her yard.
